Falling | The Civil Wars
I’ve loved The Civil Wars since the first time I heard Poison & Wine. Their sound is so familiar and wonderful. This song in particular really gets me. Why? Well, have you ever found yourself unable to describe a feeling - in this case, a bad feeling - but you knew it was there and wanted someone to see it and understand? To see it and tell you it was something that would pass?
Tell me it’s nothing
Try to convince me
That I’m not drowning
Oh, let me tell you - I am
Please. Please tell me you know
Have you ever had these feelings come and had them pertain to someone you were very close to? Oh, and didn’t you want them to notice? Didn’t you want them to see they weren’t seeing through your self-created facade? And it broke your heart that they didn’t see.
Haven’t you seen my sleep walking?
‘Cause I been holding your hand.
Haven’t you noticed me drifting?
That’s it. That’s this song for me. The first time I heard this song and heard my own feelings set to words and music, I cried for an hour.
It’s nice to find someone that understands, even if it’s someone you’ll never talk to. Someone, somewhere…well, they’ve felt the same way.
